The eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, Bruno has a forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy, Shmuel, on the other side of the camp fence. To Bruno, Shmuel is just a friend, but the friendship between the two boys leads to a devastating conclusion.
