Meaning

A play based on the life of Viktor E. Frankl by Rubin Battino, in particular his survival of the Nazi concentration camps. Frankl was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist prior to surviving life in a number of camps during the war, including Auschwitz. He went on to write some 40 books, including on the subjects of surviving the Holocaust, on finding ways of creating meaning in life and a reason for living, even in the most desperate circumstances. The play is an ensemble piece that retells Frankl’s experiences in his own words. A broad range of philosophical and human questions are asked throughout the play about the nature of humanness and survival as well offering a detailed portrait of everyday life in a concentration camp.
