Now They Are Singing Again [Nun singen sie wieder]
A surrealistic play, subtitled Attempt at a Requiem, derives its ironic title from the repeated leitmotif of a song sung by twenty-one hostages executed by Nazis. Structured in seven parts, the first four detail the horrors of war, fascism, racism, and the assassinations of the victims. The final three show the inability of the murdered innocents to explain what can be learned from the war's inhumanity.
