Brief synopsis: 1942: 8160 Jews are rounded up by the Paris police and held in the Vel’ d’Hiv stadium before being sent to French internment camps. 11-year-old Joseph Weismann and his family are transported to Beaune-la-Rolande. Soon, his parents and sisters are brutally torn away from him and sent to Auschwitz. He is left behind with 1000 other children, who are told that they’ll be reunited with their parents. Unable to believe this, he makes a daring escape. In this play, Joseph, now 87, gives a moving account of his experiences to a diverse group of students in a French middle school.
